Do what you love

Life is too short. We have all heard it a million times before, and often, when heard, our mind comes up with an agreement of some kind. When you hear - life is too short, do what you love, the mind often comes up with protests - I have to work, I can't eat beans to survive, I have to work to pay the mortgage etc etc etc.

Trouble is, if we continue to justify our 'being stuck in the rat race' how are we ever going to get out?

At the risk of generating hate mail - the hardest thing for me at the moment is trying to decide WHAT it is that I actually want to do with my life. I love being a business coach, helping people grow their business' and passion, but I also love training and riding my horses - maybe I could do something in this area. Once I decide, its going to be all bets off, gung ho, volcano Tanja doing everything I can to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

What is it that you want to do all day every day?

Then start taking the steps to making it happen,

With love

Filled with gratitude

I have so much to be grateful for this week.

To kick start it, mother nature has cranked on the most exquisite day in a while - sunny, clear, about 21 degrees and a light breeze Ahhmazing :)

I am writing, writing, writing this week, because the countdown is on for me to go away for 2 whole weeks of riding my horse YAY. I am so looking forward to this, but on the same token, so grateful that I have so much writing to do. 2 books and 2 guests blogs and my own blogs - filled with gratitude that people want to read what I have to write :)

Noticing the little things (which really arent that little), a beautiful flower, a perfect day, a happy dog, a starry night - all things to make me smile.

Having so many positive people in my life, some of them I've never met, some of them I haven't seen in 15 years but thanks to facebook I see once a week, some of who I see often, and one who I wake up next to each day,

Love,

Growth,

Reflection,

Have a great weekend,

Tanja

Use your tools - Know what is out there just for you!

Making life easier is something that alot of business owners are seeking. You may not have the time to look around, but if you do, there are some incredible online tools available to make your life easier.

The first one that I like to use is Hootesuite this social media manager allows you to log in and update multiple social media sites all at once! If you have been avoiding social media due to time issues - this is the product for you. I can log into hootesuite, write a status update that will be uploaded to twitter, facebook, linkedin and my 2 facebook pages. And I can do schedule when I want them to update - going on holidays for a week, but still want to bring attention to your website - easy!

You may have noticed my newsletters come out via Mailchimp, this simple and effective tool allows me to write newsletters in HTML format, include images and instantly send or schedule to send in a week. With the added bonus of being able to store multiple newsletters - you can have your next 4 newsletters done and dusted today - set and forget!

Looking to outsource your webcontent, articles, newsletters or logo design (or anything else you can think of)? Check out the talent on Elance, Fiverr,Burnyourtodolist or Odesk. These sites have thousands of people listed with all sorts of talent. Fiverr is a heap of fun because it has listed all the things that people will do for $5! From unique gifts to recording a testimonial!

Online outsourcing is just another way to free up your valuable time. If your time is most valuabley spent meeting and greeting clients - then your focus should be to outsource everything that is not meeting and greeting clients.
Here's to a great week in business. Tanja

What your customers really think

What your customers really think!
You would like to know - wouldn't you? Then ask them - it really is as simple as that. You must be prepared for the good, the bad and the ugly though. Giving your customers the opportunity to give you feedback on your products and service allows you to get some honest feedback - which might just hurt - but will allow you to improve your service and not just keep existing clients, but retain new customers that come along.

Give your clients the option of returning the survey anonymously, or filling out their details. You can help clients want to complete your survey by offering some sort of prize or 'special offer'.

The value of a customer survey is often underestimated, though when you think about it - these people have chosen your service, experienced your service and continue to use your service - who better to comment on how you are going?

You can even create a survey for outgoing or previous clients - it doesn't hurt to ask for their feedback!

Choose your questions wisely - try to limit the survey to 10 or 15 questions and avoid questions about the actual cost of your service - you don't wan't people thinking that you are not confident in your prices. If you put in a 'comments' section they will be sure to tell you in here if they think you are overpriced etc.

Don't forget to add to the bottom of the survey a section for a testimonial for use in advertisements. For example "We would love to have your comment for use as a testimonial on our website - please comment below and write your name as you would like it to appear" *note - your personal information will not be given to a third party - all names will appear in the following format - E B Jones Coffs Harbour"

There are many options for sending out your survey - one that I like to use is surveymonkey.com

I would love to hear of your feedback!

Great Gossip and how to get more

Gossip is not something that is normally considered a good thing. But when you take a minute to think about it - we all love a bit of gossip now and then! We love hearing it, sharing it and spreading it. So what does this have to do with business? Your business needs to be the focus of (great) Gossip!

We have all done it - had an experience in a shop or business and let more than one person know about 'what happened'. Now unfortunately we are more likely to spread negative stories (we love gossip - but we love to have a whinge too!), and alot of the business advice you read or receive is focused on this fact. How about focusing on the fact that when people have a funny, odd or sensational experience - they will share that with friends too.

What can you do in your business to start the gossip ball rolling?

What your business services are will depend on what can you do, but some ideas may include;

Putting in a kids corner to keep clients kids occupied (parents LOVE it when their kids are entertained for 10 minutes), colouring in competition, giveaways, lucky door prizes, free delivery, carrying goods to the car for people, free wifi for clients, complimentary tea and coffee while they wait, up to date magazines and books, a library of books or equipment that is specific to your business that your clients can borrow, these are the basics - then you can add to this list the 'quirky'. How about giving everyone who comes in the door a flower on valentines day? An egg at easter (beware of allergies), the list can go on.

Think about who your business caters for, and then think about who else you cater for by default. If your business caters to kids - they have adults that bring them along - what are you providing for them? Your business caters to adults - they may have friends or family that come along - how can you cater to them?

Get the gossip cranking today!
Here's to a great week in business. Tanja

Adventures In Manifesting

Adventures In Manifesting

So, 12 weeks ago I stumbled across an e course called Adventures in Manifesting. Ididn't really know what to expect in the course, having never done one before, and Iwasn't really sure what I would get out of it. To be perfectly honest I ummed and ahhhedfor probably 2 days before clicking on that 'buy now' button. What made me finally do it ? I knew that I wanted more in my life, and I had read Sarah's book - which, to me (having my own book in stores, and knowing what it takes to get to the finished product on shelves), meant alot.

I could not have possibly imagined the journey that was ahead. If you are reading this because you are trying to decide - then do it. I can try to describe the camaraderie, the RESULTS, the shift in mindset, the accountability, the laughter, the tears, the gratitude, the love and all the great, awesome, exceptional things that come into your life, the higher level of understanding and the growth you experience as a person, but it would just be words.

Truth be told, if you have found out about this course, and you are reading up on it, then go for it - you have attracted it into your life for some reason, why question it?

Moving the washing Basket

Moving the washing basket.
Seems like an odd title for a business e-news, but stay with me. I was putting away my washing the other day, and was going from the basket to the robe or the draw putting clothes where they belong, and it dawned on me - why don't I move the washing basket?

Women readers of this news are probably chuckling right now - they know how to effectively and swiftly manage the housework - you move the wash basket to the robe so you don't have to walk, you spin the washing line so the empty space comes to you - you don't walk to it. There are probably hundreds. What has this got to do with business? Everything.

Is your office, workspace or place of business fitted out in such a way for ease of use? Or do you have little obstacles, that now have become so 'normal' to you, that you don't notice them anymore? Take a fresh look around, ask a friend if you have to, should you move anything for 'ease of use'. Another name for this is "Feng Shui" or "wind and water" and the philosophy behind it is simply ease of energy flow.

If you put absolutely no stock whatsoever in energy flow - let me put it to you this way. If it takes a team member, who uses the printer 16 times a day, 30 seconds to walk to the printer, and 30 seconds to walk back, that's 16 minutes a day in walking to the printer - maybe you could move it closer to them and save yourself approximately 3840 minutes of 'wasted wages'.

Does your place of business welcome the customers? Do you have a welcome mat? Is your doorway open and inviting, or cluttered and small? Does your team have to negotiate desks, chairs and cupboards to get around the office, or can they just walk in straight to their desk?

From the larger items - like the actual placement of office furniture, to the simple moving the washing basket, take a fresh look at your systems - are things where they are "because that's where they have always been". Maybe its time for a mini move to spice things up - they say that change is as good as a holiday!

Consistency - do you deliver?

Consistency - do you deliver?
In all business' there basic tasks and functions that we do on a regular basis. We need to ensure that each member of our team, is consistent in delivering the experience of our business. By designing an experience for our clients we offer several benefits. Comfort. Human beings thrive on comfort - we all have favourite restaurants, chairs, beaches or holiday spots - why? Because there is a sense of security in familiarity. When we know what something is going to be like - we feel 'warm and fuzzy'.

I have a petrol station near my home. It is a locally owned business, and they offer 'good old fashioned' service. They pump the fuel for you, and as an added bonus, they have a prize draw each month for $50 worth of fuel - no cost to enter - if you purchase fuel, you get a ticket. Its great, when I first went there I made the decision to make that "my petrol station". So I go out of my way, past another petrol station, and away from where I am heading (90% of the time I head north up the highway, and this petrol station is south), because of all these great benefits, and I like to support locals. 6 months down the track and I don't think I have received consistent service once. There are 3 attendants that work there. The older man always pumps the fuel, and gives me a ticket, the young boy often pumps the fuel and sometimes gives me a ticket, the lady always pumps the fuel and never gives me a ticket. Yesterday I pull in, and the older man is having a smoke and talking to one of his mates - he doesn't pump the fuel, and he doesn't give me a ticket. So I leave, disappointed. And the funny thing is I realise that I would rather go to the other petrol station, and get consistently average service, than go to the "good service" petrol station and get disappointed.

So are your team members on board with the service experience that you want to deliver? For example - does your business provide a service for children? If so, are all of your staff walking around talking to the kids like the wiggles - or a half of them doing that, and the other half 'boring'. Because parents want their kids to get the same experience every time. Decide the atmosphere that you want to portray (professional, fun, serious, exciting) and make a few rules and guidelines (consistencies) for your team to follow.

I'm big on goal setting.

The more thought you put into a goal, the better chance you have of achieving it. I have been focussed on expanding my writing - both online and published (magazines and books). I want to be a regular contributor to a 4 websites, and a columnist in 4 or 5 magazines. Well, i focussed, put the word out, and I am already up to 2 websites!

Do you instil confidence in your clients?

Confidence is a key factor in your clients decision making process. Deciding to stay with you, or deciding to become your client in the first place starts with their confidence that you can provide the service that they are after. Once confidence has been established, the relationship continues to go 1 of 2 ways - it either builds, and they begin to trust you, and eventually trust you and begin to recommend you to their friends and relatives. The opposite direction is the relationship does not build, it even declines, the client starts to question the initial confidence they had in you, in the first place.

How to we give the clients the confidence that they need?

Knowledge + Honesty = Confidence which builds to Trust.

Knowledge. You must be the dictionary of your field. The encyclopedia that is referred to by your client for answers. If you are a Real Estate Agent - you must know (not only your own properties) What is on the market, what has sold recently, what developments are happening soon, where it flooded, where it didn't, where all the major "landmarks" are. If you are a personal trainer - you need to know about nutrition, carbs, sugars, low fat, no fat, gluten free, all the different 'pop culture' diets around, if your client is injured in an area - how do you still workout with that injury. If you sell widgets - you need to know what widgets are on the market, what the old widgets did, what the new widgets do & what your competition is selling widgets for.

It doesn't stop there, go the extra mile for your clients and look after them. Is there a new book out on real estate, nutrition or widgets? Recommend it (after you read it!) to your clients. This is showing your client that you care about their needs and think about them even after hours.

A note here - It is ok to say that you do not know something, and that you will find it out, and get back to the client - this displays honesty (NEVER LIE!).

Do a quick self assessment - what questions could your clients ask that you can't answer today? Take the time to do some research!

Who are your clients and who are your customers?

In pretty much every business you can differentiate between clients and customers. For example, in a real estate office - your clients are you landlords and vendors - they have entrusted you with their asset to manage or sell. Your customers are your tenants and prospective buyers. In the retail sector your clients are those loyal ones - the ones that come to you every time the need an X. They refer friends and relatives, and they are happy to see your business flourish. If you are an events co-ordinator - your clients are the ones who are backing you, sure, you may have entertainers that make up a big part of the show, and you need to look after them too - they are your customers, but your clients are the agents of the entertainers that are bringing you 'talent' time after time.

Both clients and customers are an integral part of your business. And the goal is to 'upgrade' everyone to client status. If you own a butcher shop for example, your clients are the ones who buy all of their meat at your shop - they don't buy 90% of their meat at the supermarket, and come to you for a weekend barby. Your weekend barby buyers as customers are still vitally important, and you want to service them in such a way that they want to become clients.

Take a minute to identify the clients and customers in your business - maybe its time to 'go the extra mile' for a client or two.

Here's to smart business

Real service!

There is constant talk about 'customer service' no matter where you turn. As a business coach, i am constantly reminding my clients about customer service within their business'. But what is service? Ask this question, and you will hear a million different answers. The way I sum it up is simple - customer service is whatever the customer thinks it is. Whatever they don't expect - in a good way! I have a great example to share. I was in Subway the other day ordering a vege wrap (yes I am a vegetarian - but the sandwich maker didn't know that). She was making my wrap - and my partners Italian BMT (covered in meat!). She actually asked me, if I wanted her to change gloves after handling the meat! THAT'S SERVICE! It is something that I didn't expect, it was over and above 95% of experiences I have had like this (I have been offered a chicken sandwich when asking for a vege option!).

That's what customer service is. It has gone far beyond 'service with a smile' - we still need to do this, but customer service these days is far exceeding the expectation of the customer. I fully expect to be greeted nicely, served promptly, without fuss - so when I get this service, I'm not dazzled - I am merely satisfied.

Are you dazzling your customers? Or merely satisfying them?

Declutter continues, tradgedy unfolds and gratefulness increases

well, i finished the fridge, the pantry and the medicine cabinet and the
cabinet that all the tea, coffee and cereal is in. I did some more of my office, and
just went and bought some storage solutions for my partners business - this
organization stuff is infectious!

Sometimes I think 'wow i should be spending time on things that are going to bring
in $$ this week' but then I realise that while I'm spending the time doing menial tasks, its
putting my brain into a relaxed state - which is allowing some great ideas to filter through, not
to mention that now each time i open a cupboard or walk into my office space I'm now not thinking 'oh I have to do that' or ' oh i need to clean this' etc.

Really grateful for that this week, also watching the tragedy unfold north of me, I'm grateful that
I have food, shelter, my own warm bed, my animals are high and dry (we were in severe flooding in 2009 and nearly lost several of our horses). I'm grateful that we got through that, I'm grateful to be a part of a community and a country that just has amazing attitudes - flood victims who have lost everything, are still joking and laughing, helping their neighbours, strangers are sleeping on strangers lounge room floors, facebook groups have been made, have raised money and have saved I cant say how many animals through their efforts to not only find people who can help, but provide a register of sorts for anyone that can offer aid or in need of it. I don't think I have ever been so grateful for the Internet in all my life,

with sadness, happiness, love and gratitude.

Declutter and Distraction

Today I am tackling the fridge and pantry. I feel great about my decluttering because it is only going to put me in a great place to start the year. I am filled with gratitude that I am in a position to take time away from work and focus on these things that need to be done. It is too easy to be distracted at the moment.

Before Christmas I headed to Thailand for 2 weeks, and upon return my partners business (that I consult for) was closed until January 4th. Essentially I have had about 4 weeks off! To get refocused and into a routing is proving difficult, though Im not getting less work done ( I think!) but I am working odd hours.

I worked for most of the weekend (got some great improvements done on my website :) so I don't mind at the moment. But once this declutter is done, I will get back into my 'ideal week' which is something that I live by, and recommend to all of my clients. I find it incredibly productive to work by my ideal week.

Once the fridge and pantry are done, my office will be completed 50% done, and then the windows and walls are going to be tackled - not really 'decluttering' but I love the idea of scrubbing away last year (not that it was bad) and starting 'fresh' again :)

Heres to 2011 and freedom :)

DeClutter, Gratitude and Negativity

well, the declutter is well on its way. I tackled the 'looks like a mob of 3 year olds have been living in here unsupervised for 3 months' bedroom today, and it feels good. I am getting things done!

I am typing this and watching the Qld flood appeal. It is both heartening and heartbreaking to watch. Heartening to see that so many Australians are getting behind fellow Aussies, and donating to this cause to help them get back on their feet (as much as you can help). It's heartbreaking to see the footage of people being picked up from their homes via helicopter, knowing that it wont be there when they get back. Heartbreaking to see farmers whose crops and livestock are gone, their homes and their lively hood are gone, and yet they will recover somehow. I will go to bed grateful that I have my own warm, safe bed to sleep in.

My final thoughts tonight touch on negativity. I had to remind myself in the last couple of days that some people just can't be 'uplifted'. They always have a reason, an excuse, for remaining in their negative frame of mind. You say something to help them, and they shoot you down, you suggest something else, and there is something wrong with that idea aswell. Their situation is always 'different' and 'harder' than everyone elses. I realised that before long they are dragging you down with them. That you are now spending so much time trying to come up with things to help them, that you have lost hours on what you should have been focussing on for yourself, your loved ones, or your business.

So I sign off tonight with many revelations.

Grateful for accountability

Thought I would get up to speed with my gratitude post. Today I am grateful for the accountability that the AIM2011 group brings. This group has such an amazing bunch of successful people - and to be successful you need to have plans and rituals, systems, take care of yourself etc. So, for alot of us (i assume) the actual tasks that are being presented aren't new to us, its the accountability that come with them that is 'forcing' (in a nice way :) us to complete them. I know I suggest to my clients to do things everyday, but I may not always get to them myself. Thoughts anyone?

Ps I am also grateful that I just concocted Vegemite toast with Danish Fetta on top, sounds disgusting, tastes unreal.

Heres to gratitude :)

The Declutter has begun!

Well, I headed straight to the wardrobe phase of the declutter :)

I have weeded out all the stuff for charity, and Packed all my winter clothes in a bag to bring out in June! Yay - So much room in my wardrobe now :))) I also had a 'blinding flash of the obvious' whilst I was doing it, which means I now have a better spot for a huge chest that has been at the bottom of my robe!

I find that It isnt only the end result of the declutter that is great, its the process. I find that when I do something that doesnt require too much thought, It allows better ideas to pop into my head.

Yours and happy in declutter mode :)
Tk

Bring on the DeClutter!!!!!

Yay, I am soo excited about this task! I often declutter my areas, but they are well overdue - especially after the influx of 'stuff' at Christmastime.

The prestigious "clearing of the inbox" is something that I found very rewarding - at the end of last year I had over 1000 emails (oops!) in my inbox. I cleaned it right up and got it down to just a page, and my goal is to maintain it at just one page.

Thankyou Sarah for putting this task right up the front of our course - a clear mind allows the creativity to flow :) :)

Manifesting :)

It seems the law of attraction was working well before I joined this AIM program, and caused me to join it. As I read through the posts, I realise the hugeness (is that a word?) of what I am participating in. I am honoured to be part of such an amazing group of talented and passionate people.

It is inspiring to know that Im part of such a focussed bunch, though along the way we have faced similar challenges.

I have a question for everyone at the moment - am interested to know your thoughts;

I have a fab Idea for a book. it will feature up to 30 people, maybe more, so each of the 30 features will be promoting it. Do I publish it myself (I put up the $$ required, organise the whole thing, publicity, agreements with the featured people) or do I put it in front of my publisher, who does all the work, but takes a huge chunk of $, leaving me (& features) with alot less $? Does having a publisher ad credibility or doesnt it matter anymore? The way I see it, If i self publish, it is a huge amount of work but a) I will be able to get my investment plus profit back alot quicker B) I will be able to offer better terms to the contributors, and direct other funds to a charity (which is what I want to do?)

Would love to hear your feedback :)

A day lost?

so last night I went out with the girls to celebrate / commiserate about a girlfriend leaving the area and heading North. A few too many wines later and the next day (today) was almost a complete write off :(

Now to put a positive spin on it (which i did) I did take the opportunity to relax, kick back and watch a movie (during the middle of the day - an luxury I rarely indulge in). Then I found the energy to work with a young horse that im starting. On the whole an unproductive day on the work / business growth front, but probably a very productive day on the mental health front :)

Tonight I stuck to my exercise program for the 3rd day running, which I am super happy about, so my gratitude/s of the day are 1) I stuck to my exercise program 2) I stuck to my blog 3) I took some me time 4) I worked my young horse and finally I also checked my emails tonight and found extreme gratitude in the fact that I have systems in place that take alot of the work out of managing my twitter account etc - all thanks to Miss Sarah Prouts awesome book - THANKYOU!!!! again :)

2011 and exercise

well, like alot of people one of my new year resolutions / goals / promises to myself is that I am going to take better care of myself. I am generally an active person - I have a number of horses that I train and ride, dogs to play with, and paddocks and fences to maintain. All that said, I can be lazy! I decided this year that alongside my horses, and the martial arts training that I do (my partner owns a full time martial arts school and I currently train in Hapkido) that I was going to restart an exercise program and take up yoga.

Yesterday i took a walk up an island with a friend, and today I completed the 'crossfit' workout of the day. I am filled with gratitude to myself - for actually doing these things :) I am currently sitting at the computer sweating, trembling and hoping that I will have the discipline to keep doing it, which, now that I have written it for the world to see - I must!

TK

Day 2 (technically day 1) of 'back to normality 2011'

Well Tuesday 4th January here in Australia is basically the 'back to work' day for most of us. School kids dont go back to school for a month, and some professional offices (real estate agents, solicitors etc) wont go back for another week, but for most, if you got a break at all, today is the first day back.

Having my own business, and choosing my own hours, I have been working a little over the course of the holidays, and I was really looking forward to getting back into routine today. The downside of this, is the little voice in my head telling me that I can still sleep in!

This is one of the reasons that I joined the AIM2011 program. Firstly I get excited about checking the AIM posts and see what everyone is talking about, and secondly it keeps me focused on what I am trying to achieve.

Heres to success :)

Gratitude for 2010

2010 was an amazing year for me. I decided to refocus and take charge of my life and its direction. After taking a couple of years off (:) - there isn't a smiley face big enough!) after selling my business in 2008, 2010 was the year I decided to get back into the swing, but do it my way.

My Book - Maximum Returns, Minimum Concerns A Guide to Successful Property Investment was published and hit the shelves in August 2010.

I started using 3 month goal lists - and hanging them above my mirror (it works!).

I started my new business Chilli Consulting, doing what I love - coaching people to business success.

My relationship with my partner and his kids grew and continues to grow.

My animals (horses, dogs and cats) are all healthy and happy.

I took time out to train some young horses.

I wrote my goals down for 2011 and have some great ideas to make them happen.
